Objective:This research is to analyze the feature and curative effect of traditional Chinese medicine treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), through literature research and treating experiences, under the guidance of the theory of the five elements and six meridians.Theory and method:Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a very common clinical disease of digestive department. Tai chi is an important theory foundation of traditional Chinese medicine theory, and also the basic thoughts of Taoism. For example, spleen advocate rise, stomach advocate fall, reflected the tai chi balanced thinking. Tai chi theory is the guide to clinical treatment of traditional Chinese medicine. Ying Yang and six meridians theory and the five elements theory is the reflection and development of Tai chi theory, therefore, the balance of Ying Yang and the five elements is very important in treatment of GERD. Combine the theory of Yin-Yang and five elements reflects the use of Tai Chi theory in TCM theory. These theories came from the observation of the environment. Ancient Chinese people summarized all changes in the environment, and generalized the most important connotation of traditional Chinese Medicine.Six meridian comes from the change of Yin Yang of heaven and earth, and the five elements came from the phenomenon which can be observed in the change of Yin Yang. They are different results in the same concept, and have close relationship between each other. We highlight the function of gold, wood, soil these three elements in disease in the pathogenesis of GERD. Gold and wood is a pair of lifting of the Yin and Yang, and the soil is included in the other four images, but also wider than the other four images. This paper is in the light of the theory of Yin-Yang and five elements, and had selected our treatment according to the clinical experience from veteran doctors of TCM of many years. This research selected standard cases as subjects, and classified three types of syndrome according to the theory of TCM. We use foundation treatment from TCM theory, add and subtract for the difference between different people. The treatment is for eight weeks, decoction two bags per day. We had our patients filled out symptom score before and after medication, calculate the percentage of reduction of total symptom score before and after treatment as curative effect. The evidence of adverse events was recorded.Result:91cases of TCM treatment for GERD had been observed. Disharmony between the liver and stomach type has61cases, accounted for67%of the total cases;16cases of cold and heat mixed type, accounted for17.6%of the total cases;14cases of spleen deficiency and qi stagnation, accounted for15.4%of the total cases.1. After the paired samples T test calculation and the calculation for effect of percentage, the results showed clinical significance of differences before and after treatment (p<0.05).2.61cases of GERD syndrome of disharmony between liver and stomach got75.41%total efficiency.2cases achieved complete remission (3.27%),18had excellent remission (29.51%),26had partial remission (42.61%).16cases of GERD cold-heat complicated syndrome got50.0%total efficiency.0cases achieved complete remission (0%),5had excellent remission (31.25%),3had partial remission (18.75%).14cases of GERD syndrome of Spleen deficiency and qi stagnation got78.57%total efficiency.2cases achieved complete remission (14.29%),3had excellent remission (21.431%),6had partial remission (42.86%).3. There was no incidence of adverse event related to this treatment.
