Guiyang Suburbs Buyi Language Usage And Language Variation

Taking Bouyei language which was used in six administrative regions located in the suburb of Guiyang (including the districts of Huaxi, Wudang, Baiyun, the county of Kaiyang, Xiuwen and the city of Qingzhen) as the investigation targets and using methods such as the field investigation, analysis and inductive and so on, this paper introduced the current using situation, the phonetic changes, the vocabulary changes and the grammatical changes of the local Bouyei language.Bouyei language was the communicative language of Bouyei nationality lived in the suburb of Guiyang city. However, the using situation, the phonetic, the vocabulary and the grammar of local Bouyei language had different degree of change because of its strong influence by Chinese.Judging from the using situation of language, Bouyei language used in suburbs of Guiyang taken on the appearance of concentrated and mixed. What’s more, native speakers also have differences because of the different characteristics of living. In mixed areas, only elderly can speak Bouyei language and middle-aged people can understand some simple words in everyday speech. Young people can neither said nor understood the Bouyei language and Chinese already become their daily language. In concentrated areas, the amount of people who can speak Bouyei language was lager than those in mixed areas. Some middle-aged people also communicate with each other in mother tongue and many youth taken Bouyei language as second language which caused the special phenomenon of across generation inheritance.As viewed from the language itself, the pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar of local Bouyei language had different degree of change:part of the south-west Chinese aspirates initials and finals appeared in speech system of Bouyei language. A large number of south-west Chinese vocabularies also came into the vocabulary system of Bouyei language. In addition, the sequence of Bouyei language in the suburb of Guiyang had also changed and part of Chinese form came into the grammar system of Bouyei language.Although south-west Chinese enriched the pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar system of Bouyei language, it also brought threaten to the use of Bouyei language and endangered Bouyei language. Therefore, the author put forward some advises on how to protect Bouyei language in the modern context.
