With the exquisite picture, bright color and rich connotation, Children’s picturebooks are unique kinds of books for children to read that not only can directly expressthe content of the story and arouse children’s interest in reading, but also can inspiretheir imagination which helps to develop their aesthetic taste and thinking patterns. Asa bridge for the adults to enter into the children’s world, it also can strike a chordamong them. Among the numerous Chinese traditional arts, Chinese traditionalpainting, closely related to the life of working people and stamped with thecivilization bond of farming, it is characterized by simpleness, freshenss andaffiliation. Moreover, it also represents the most natural and actual wishes of thepeople living in this land. As a result, it is an acknowledged symbol of Chineseculture.This paper aims to clarify the concept of "children’s picture books" and seek thedeficiencies of the current domestic children’s picture books by comparing thedevelopment history and current situation of the books both at home and abroad.Based on the analysis of the comprehensive artistic and functional requirements ofchildren’s picture books on children’s psychological characteristics and aestheticpsychology, this paper investigates the artistic function of Chinese traditional paintingelements in children’s picture books and explores the future direction of inheritancewhich are still applicable to the traditional wisdom and thought of modern society.
