In recent years, the course of teaching Chinese as a foreign language isdeveloping quickly in China, more and more foreign students are coming to China tolearn Chinese, and the teaching of Chinese to speakers of other languages has gotpeople’s fervent concern. In most of the textbooks that they use, new words areexplained in English, which has a large impact on their Chinese learning. In this thesis,I’m trying to do research on the impact of English explanations of new words in thetextbooks of teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages on foreign students byresearching and analyzing the English explanations of the monosyllabic action verbsin the textbooks of HanYu JiaoCheng.In Section1, I’ll mainly introduce the background of choosing the subject, thecurrent situation of relative researches and their inadequacies etcetera. In Section2,I’m trying to make a summary of monosyllabic action verbs in HanYu JiaoCheng,based on which I made and carried out a questionnaire. Then I’m trying to analyze theresults of the questionnaire. In Section3, I’ll analyze the situation of Englishexplanations according to the results of questionaire, and I’m trying to analyse theimpact of English explanations of monosyllabic action verbs on the acquisition ofEuramerican students. In section4, there’ll be some advices about the compilation ofEnglish explanations and relative teaching advices of the new words in the textbooksof teaching Chinese as a second language. At last there is the conclusion. Itsummarizes the main points of the thesis briefly, and points out the limitation of thethesis.In the appendix there’s the summary of the monosyllabic action verbs and theirEnglish explanations in HanYu JiaoCheng (from the first to the third book) and thequestionnaire for52foreign students in Shanghai International Studies University.
