With the trend of economic globalization and regional integration, and the forming of China-ASEAN Free Trade Zone, Yunnan province has gradually become an important bridgehead in the southwest of China, opening up for nearby countries. Under such circumstances, recently more and more foreigners have come to Yunnan for different purposes. Some come here for travelling, some for visiting relatives, some for settlement and some for employment, which provide great impetus to the economic development of Yunnan province. However, the influx of foreigners has produced some security problems. Many foreigners, especially those from the neighbor countries, such as Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar, come to Yunnan through illegal ways. Illegal immigration, illegal residence and illegal employment are the three major illegal activities, which have caused more and more crimes and interfered with the normal social order of border area, producing negative influence on the economic development of Yunnan province. This research mainly focuses on the problems of illegal immigration, illegal residence and illegal employment of Burmese in Dehong Autonomous Prefecture of Dai and Jingpo Ethnic Group. By using the methods of literature review, systematic analysis, case studies and investigation, this thesis analyzes the current situation and problems of illegal Burmese immigrants, provides its views on this issue and seeks proper solutions. In China, research on the management of illegal Burmese immigrants is still rare, and Dehong’s case is a very typical example of this issue. This thesis claims that the experience of administering international immigrants can be adopted to solve this issue, and the current mode of administering immigrants by public security agency should be reformed. Finding scientific and people-oriented ways to administer these illegal immigrants can bring benefits to the social and economic development of Dehong. Therefore, doing research on these problems is very necessary. Finding the solutions of the issue can not only help maintain the border stability of Yunnan province but also can provide a favorable social environment for its economic development. This thesis can be divided into five parts. Part one illustrates the necessity of this research, introduces literature review both home and abroad, and provides the research targets and study methods. Part two analyzes the current problems of illegal Burmese immigrants and its negative influence on society. Part three focuses on the existing problems of handling this issue. Part four analyzes the problems of illegal Burmese immigrants from geographic, political, economical, cultural and historical perspectives. Part five provides the solutions and advices to this issue which are under the guidance of people-oriented theory.
