Mr. Tang Wenzhong (1926.1-1999.4) is one of the founders in Professional Committee of National Teaching Methodology, chairman of the committee during the first to the fifth session (1985-1997). Teaching for nearly50years, he specialized in the teaching and research work in basic theory of pedagogy, the basic teaching theory and the educational theory of higher normal college, making an outstanding contribution to promote the development of education in China. His thoughts on education can be found in his works, and the author attempts to get the gist of his educational thoughts on the basis of summarizing his works.Mr. Tang’s educational thoughts can mainly be found in the following three aspects, namely, the teaching and research work in basic theory of pedagogy, the basic teaching theory and the higher normal college education theory. Therefore, this study mainly discusses from the three perspectives.The thesis is divided into six chapters:The first chapter is introduction, mainly presenting how the research topic is raised, what the research purpose and significance are, the current development relative to the research, as well as the research contents and methods, the focus of the study of research, and lastly, the difficulties and innovations in the research.Chapter two is the account of Tang’s73-year life, in which his outstanding characters as an academic scholar, his teaching career and how he gets along with others are fully presented.Chapter three deals with how Tang’s work The Research on the Teaching Approach in Elementary School came into being, accounting the background, the contents, as well as the book’s possible historical significance and status of the book, which, therefore, presents his academic potentials in youth and the assiduous spirits in teaching theory.In chapter four, Tang’s research in the basic theory of pedagogy is discussed. It presents Mr. Tang’s study and research on the following seven fields:basic theory of education, how education and production can be combined, how to strengthen the vocational and technical education, the respect for the teachers, the intellectual development of the young and the moral education, the accountability in school management, and the investment of education funding. Furthermore, the thesis explores his academic research in the field of thoughts on pedagogy.Chapter five, deals with Tang’s basic ideas in teaching. This chapter explores his academic research in the field of teaching by means of discussing the construction of the system of teaching theory, the contents, the process, the principles, the methods, the media, the organizational forms and the evaluation insights of teaching.Chapter six is the presentation of Tang’s educational theory of higher normal college. From his ideas and theories in the education of higher normal college, teaching structure, teaching principles and the training of students "three bases", we can analyze and discuss his academic research in the field of the education of higher normal college.
