In recent years, the national youth physique monitoring data analysis showed that thephysical condition of Chinese youth generally falling. The insufficiency of adolescentphysical activity time and rising rates of obesity has become the main problems affectingadolescent physique and health. There is the close relationship between physical activity andhealth. A large number of epidemiological studies have shown that lack of physical activity isone of the important independent risk factor of health. Related studies have shown that lowlevels of high school students in our country has become one of the main factors that affecthigh school students’ learning life. Due to the heavier academic stress and the intensecompetition of high school students, the main energy of the majority of students must be usedin the study. As the time of taking part in physical exercise gets less, high school students whoinsist on physical training are fewer and fewer. Exercise, a kind of physical activity, is theeffective means to improve the level of physical activity and the energy metabolism. Thetranstheoretical model indicates the importance of physical exercise behavior transition stageof development and of the process. According to the exercise behavior and behavior tendencyof exercisers, exercise behavior stage can be divided from low level to high level into fivephases: before the expected phase, expected to stage, preparation stage, action stage, andmaintain. And as behavior change is gradual phased process developed as a spiral, changesmay be advancing from a stage of exercise behavior to the next stage of development, but alsomay appear back phenomenon. Transtheoretical model, as a comprehensive and integratedmodel of behavior change, is on the basis of extensive reference to a variety of theories andthe form is constantly optimized and improved. Through constantly theory test andexperiment validation, the basis of the theoretical framework is now getting stabilized. In this study, questionnaire, quasi-experimental method, mathematical statistics areused to explore whether adding the lumbar and abdominal muscle exercise to class in highschool can promote physical activity levels of high school students in different stages ofexercise behavior. In this study, two high school classes were chosen as control class andintervention class. Lumbar and abdominal muscle exercise were added to sports classes ofintervention class for as long as10-15minutes during the18-weeks-long training, whilephysical education of control class take the conventional teaching mode. Before and afterintervention,"Exercise phase change scale" and "International Physical ActivityQuestionnaire (long version)" are used to measure the exercise stages, physical activity levelsand energy consumption, and then Excel and SPSS18.0are used to entry the measured data and do some statistical analysis. The results showed that:1After intervention, the18-week-long lumbar and abdominal muscle exercise, significant growth of students in the intervention class appears in sit-ups during one minuteand sit and reach. Therefore, for high school students, regular exercise of the lumbar andabdominal muscle strength do increase flexibility of hip joint.2After the intervention, stages of exercise behavior of intervention class changedsignificantly, among which the majority is advancing but the minority didn’t change. Stagesof exercise behavior of control class did not change significantly.3After the18-week-long lumbar and abdominal muscle exercise, level of physicalactivity and energy consumption of students in the intervention class increased significantly, while the control class student’s physical activity levels and energy consumption did notsignificantly improve. Conclusions: the lumbar and abdominal muscle exercise not only improve the strength oflumbar and abdominal muscles, but also promote the behavior of exercise; It also helpcultivate and enhance exercise cognition, as well as maintain or improve exercise adherence; And it is able to improve the study of physical activity level, and enhance its energymetabolism.
