The typical tight sandstone gas reservoir of the second member of Xujiahe Formation at Penglai-Suining-Moxi which fully puts into exploration and development. Since the discovery, a vast number of expert layer wells drilled proved encouraging exploration and development potential. The theory of petroleum geology services as the guide of the lecture, which is based on the geology, seismic, well logs and productive data, through the observation, description, slice identification of cores. What’s more, in the lecture, doing the research on the comprehensive geological characters to make contribution to the development goal is another means, such as, types and distributions of sand-bodies in the second member of Xujiahe Formaiton, reservoir characteristics, and reserve evaluation.Based on lithology, electrical characteristics, the large complete set of sandstone which shows low GR and high Rt services as the top or bottom interface of the second member of Xujiahe Formation which also can be divided into three sub-members. The upper sub-member of the second member of Xujiahe Formation is the main producing intervals which is apparent. Beach-bar is the main types of the sand-body. Rock types of the reservoirs in research area are debris-feldspar, light gray feldspar-debris sandstone with low porosity and penetrability. The secondary pore is the usual type in the second and third sub-member of Xujiahe Formation, while the primary pore can be find in the upper sub-member shows the difference of the distribution of pore in the vertical.Deposition, diagenesis and tectonic movement are the main controlling factors for reservoir development and distribution in the research area. The favorable reservoir’s characteristics are coarse grain size, clean elutriation, rich quartz and hard debris. Dissolution make a contribution to the secondary pore development and the fractures improves the percolation condition of the reservoir. With the analysis of the geological characteristics of gas well, the upper sub-member of the second member of Xujiahe Formation can be divided into eight potential target areas and subordinate potential target areas.
