Sorbic acid is a colorless needle crystal or white powder and can be decomposedinto carbon dioxide and water in human body. This reagent is recognizedinternationally as effective, non-toxic and safe food additive. Its molecular formula isC6H8O2.In the process of sorbic acid production, the wastewater produced contains a lotof pollutants, such as croton aldehyde, acetic acid, hydrochloric acid, catalyst, urea,ethanol and raw sorbic acid. The characteristics of this wastewater are high COD,poor biodegradability, low pH value, heavy color and high tar content.For sorbic acid wastewater, the information related to sorbic acid wastewatertreatment in recent years was collected and studied. Based on the actual situation incommissioning and operation of several sorbic acid wastewater treatmrnt projects, wecompared different sorbic acid wastewater pretreatment and biological treatmentprocesses. The difference in treatment effect was carfully compared and a conclutionwas obtained, namely "physicochemical pretreatment-electrolytic flotation-microelectrolysis-coagulation sedimentation-catalytic oxidation-coagulationsedimentation–baffle anaerobic–regulation pool-EGSB-facultative tank-CASS-sand filter-precision filter-advanced treatment" process, to ensure the effluent meetthe discharge requirements.Through the economic analysis, taking a sorbic acid wastewater treatment station(the treatment capacity is180m3/d) as an example, the wastewater treatment tons ofwater cost is18340yuan/m3, average annual total cost is1.5031million yuan, annualoperating cost is1.3438million yuan, and the unit cost is25.30yuan/m3.The process of sorbic acid wastewater treatment is quite completed, includesseveral physicochemical and biological processes. The operation of this wastewatertreatment station requires qualified staffs with professional knowledge and spirit.When an abnormal appeared in biological treatment process, the recovery needs moretime. During commissioning and operation, water quality monitoring should becarried out on time and related measures should be taken.
