In the purification process of zinc hydrometallurgy, many enterprises of zinc hydrometallurgy are always puzzled by cobalt removal of the low content of cadmium solution. The traditional treatment processes of low-cadmium solution can be adopted by using zinc-antimony salt purification method. However, the high concentration of cobalt and thallium still can be obtained after the purification process. To prevent the high content of cobalt and thallium from returning to the zinc hydrometallurgy system, which increase the burden of purification of removing cobalt and thallium. It is necessary to remove the cobalt and thallium from the low-cadmium solution by open circuit method.In order to solve the problem, according to the experiment research, it is feasible to use a new purification process to treat the low-cadmium solution with new active sulfuring agent (K-agent). In a domestic zinc hydrometallurgy factory, a industrial purification test has been carried out and a good result has been achieved.In this paper, the purification process of cobalt removed from low-cadmium solution by using K-agent has been researched particularly. On the basis of previous research, the best condition on purification process of cobalt from the low-cadmium solution is obtained. The optimal process parameters can be listed as fellows:1) during the process of removing cobalt from the low-cadmium solution by using K-agent, the reaction temperature is90℃, reaction time is60min, the addition amount of K-agent and auxiliary precipitating reagent are respectively11times and2.0times than the quality of cobalt;2) In the first process of removing organic matter, the reaction temperature is90℃, reaction time is60min, the addition amount of removal agent is30mg/L;3) In the second process of removing organic matter, the reaction temperature is50℃, reaction time is30min, the addition amount of zinc powder is1.0g/L. Experiment results show that, under the optimal conditions, the residual amount of cobalt and nickel is below lmg/L, the residual amount of thallium is below O.lmg/L, the residual organic compounds is mainly eliminated.Industrial product test has been carried out on the basis of the optimum condition parameters of laboratory. The industrial product test shows that remnants of the cobalt is between0.1and5mg/L and the bulk is below lmg/L, nickel and thallium is respectively below lmg/L and O.lmg/L, the organic matter is removed effectively during the test. The high quality of zinc and stable yield can be obtained. Therefore, it is effective to use the new method to remove the cobalt from low-cadmium solution with better promotion value by usinging K-agent, which can remove cobalt and thallium effectively in zinc hydrometallurgy process.
