In recent years, relying on scientific and technological progress, the technical and economic indexes of blast furnace in Ansteel’s Iron-making Complex have being been improved and the cost of hot metal decreased year by year. Then, there is still high cost of per ton hot metal in Ansteel compared with advanced levels in domestic key enterprises. The reasons for the high cost of iron making in Ansteel may various, except influenced by the equipment status and operation level, to a great extent, are related to the burden structure and raw material preparation level.A well effect of granulation can improve the permeability of the charge layer, which is conducive to increase the yield and quality of the sinter. To strengthen granulation in the mixing process, to adhere the fine material on the nuclear particle and to form the particles with certain size can improve the sinter bed permeability, and hence, a higher sintering productivity can be achieved. Therefore, the relative researchers of all countries are committed to blending and granulating technology for the raw material in sintering, and some good results have been achieved.From some statistics, it is found that the coke ratios of some blast furnaces that have used the sinter produced by No.3 Sintering Workshop as the burdens went up, which resulted in an increasing cost of per ton hot metal. And the biggest difference in preparation of blending among No.3 Sintering Workshop and other workshops lies that a disc pelletizer is adopted in No.3 Sintering Workshop, and drum pelletizers are adopted in other sintering workshops for granulating. Therefore, to study the effects of different methods on the granulation of sinter, has certain practical significance.Taking the No.2 and No.3 Sintering Workshops in Iron-making Complex at Ansteel as the research object, the superiority of granulating technology of drum pelletizer over disc pelletizer is verified through sintering cup tests researches and analyses and comparisons for the blending effect of both disc pelletizer and drum pelletizer in this work. The researches include the conditions of the raw materials and the fuel used, the sintering cup tests in the fixed ratio of raw materials through different granulating methods, the impacts to the chemical composition stability as well as the quality of the sintering products by disc and drum pelletizers and the thermal analysis and evaluation of the metallurgical properties of sinter. The experimental results show that, the blending efficiency of drum pelletizer is better than that of disc pelletizer. In order to improve the sinter quality of No.3 Sintering Workshop and to solve the issue for rising of coke ratio in the blast furnaces that use the sinter produced in No.3 Sintering Workshop, the granulating system in No.3 Sintering Workshop should be transformed as the proposal of this work.
