With the rapidly development of drilling technology, drilling engineering have put forward higher and higher demands for the characteristics of drilling fluid. The characteristics of solids control equipments have a direct effect on drilling fluid’s purification effect. As the last stage of solids control devices, centrifuge is the main separation equipment to remove harmful solid from drilling fluid and recovery of useful solids.Based on the analysis of the current situation of centrifuge for drilling fluid, we know that the small capacity can’t meet the requirement of the solid controlling system to full displacement treatment. And for solving this problem, the study about a new LW800type drilling fluid centrifuge was carried out. Firstly, program evaluation of the centrifuge’s drive system was carried out by using functional analysis and fuzzy evaluation. Secondly, the structure parameters and working parameters of this centrifuge was determined according to the basic theory of the decanter centrifuge. The optimization design model of multi-objective for the LW800type of centrifuge has been built up and optimization procedure has been designed according to the design requirements. This centrifuge’s main structure parameters also been optimized at the same time. The finite element analysis about the centrifuge’s drum was made at last. This research may have practical significance in developping new product and improving the existing drilling fluid centrifuge’s structure.The main research works of this paper are as followings:(1) Find out the development level and the direction of drilling fluid centrifuge and the problems existing in the field use by consulting materials at home and abroad widely.(2) On the basis of analysis of drilling fluid centrifuge’s function, the comprehensive evaluation for the transmission system of LW800type centrifuge was made with the multi-level fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method;(3) In the light of the basic theory of drilling fluid centrifuge, the strength, stiffness, vibration stability, production capacity, power consumption and so on about the LW800type of centrifuge has been worked out and the routine analysis calculation has been done.(4) The mathematical model for LW800type centrifuge to optimal design was built up according to the basic requirement of drilling fluid for centrifuge, and it’s main structure parameters was optimized with a combination algorithm of nonlinear and mixed discrete variables and multi objective optimization design method.(5) With the finite element analysis, the drum of the LW800type centrifuge was analyzed.
