Cable harness is an important part of complex mechanical and electrical products, the quality of harness design and assembling affects the overall performance of a product. For traditional cable harness process, according to the experience of engineers, the repeated tries of the product prototype always have to be carried out before the laying paths of harnesses and their assembling sequence can be figured out. However, conventional method is too inefficient and high costing, unable to meet the requirements of agile manufacturing. With the development of virtual reality technology, virtual assembling technology provides new solutions and ideas for the problems above. What were researched has been pointed out as follows:1. The conversion method of the rigid assembling models from CAD systems to VR platforms has been analyzed and established.2. By way of human-computer interaction in a virtual environment, path planning of cable harness was conducted, and proposed geometric modeling unit was cable harness between the adjacent fixed point,On the basis of that, the integrated information modeling of cable harness has been designed.3. How to deduce the assembling unit priority of harness from their integrated information modeling has been put forward, the fitness functions of harness assembling sequence being worked out from perspectives of assembling unit priority, the maximum diameter, the maximum length, and number of branches. Then the developed Genetic Algorithm has been utilized to accomplish harness assembling sequence planning.4. The module of harness assembling sequence planning have been developed, and the example demonstrations have been demonstrated.
