| Based on an overall analysis of the connotation of modern fashion, clothing culture and elements, this paper mainly conducts a research on basic characteristics, national spirits and the combination of cultural elements and fashion in Tujia People’s dress culture.The author thinks that admiration for courage and the pursuit of fortune are not only the core elements of Tujia People but also the key connotation. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, Tujia folk love tigers and they regard white tigers as their ancestors and totem, which show Tujia People’s strong aesthetics consciousness, strong will and indomitable spirit. Secondly, in the Tujia traditional buildings and clothing, everywhere you can see the tiger pattern. This fully shows that the Tujia people’s admiration for tigers not only lingers over the concept level, but penetrates in every aspect of Tujia people’s life. Thirdly, many Tujia costumes are embroidered with various mascots, which shows that the Tujia people have been longing for good luck and peace. Fourthly, in history, Tujia ancestors’ harsh living conditions play a decisive role in their pursuit of courage and fortune.Defined from the angle of changing fashion, fashion refers to a time of popular behavior and lifestyle. If defined from the function of fashion, it refers to a certain lifestyle or manner of behavior that can make people’s qualities stand out. The author believes that the modern fashion refers to a lifestyle or manner of behavior that can make people shine in a certain period of time. The same outfit is fashionable when it suits a person. While it is outdated when it is unsuitable for a person as proper clothing for a person can bring out the best in him but fail to maximize another’s temperament. Fashion has the following features: first, from the angle of content and form, it is broad in content and diverse in forms. Second, from the angle of its form, fashion is unique in content and form. Third, from the time, fashion changes rapidly. Fourth, from its way of dissemination, fashion is generally used by public figures at first, and then spread quickly. Fifth, from the perspective of the circulation, the fashion has a certain periodicity. Sixth, from the measurement of the standard, the fashion is to bring out the best temperament in people.The author thinks that the Tujia clothing culture mainly includes "courage" and "fortune". The reason that Tujia costumes culture is mainly presented in bravery is because: first, the tiger is a symbol of being brave and stubborn. Tujia ancestors survive in very dangerous natural environment, and need the courage and indomitable spirit, to overcome the difficulties. Second, tiger is a symbol of good luck, Tujia people think that the tiger can be a protection against evil spirits. Third, the tiger is a symbol of health, Tujia people want their offspring to be as healthy and strong as tigers. Tujia people regard fortune as an important element in Tujia costumes culture because living in the mountains and the extremely low productivity conditions, Tujia ancestors’ ability to overcome natural disasters is very limited. Faced with enormous difficulties and hardships, they may be swallowed up by the scourge. To survive in such an environment, it is bound to produce a strong desire to wish for peace. Second, in the ancient society, people have a low ability to resist natural disasters and human autoimmune disease. So horrified by disaster and disease powerless, and disease, Tujia people pray for exorcism by demon, fewer disasters and peace.A specific combination of Tujia clothing’s culture elements and modern fashion lies in its full expression of Tujia people’s yearning for a happy life and their ways to achieve it. There is an underlying connection between courageous elements and auspicious factors in Tujia costumes. The pursuit of happiness and the yearning for the auspicious are aims of the Tujia people, and hard work is the means to achieving the happiness of Tujia people.The way of combining Tujia costumes cultural elements and modern fashion includes the following two aspects: One is based on the national characteristics of Tujia costumes, transforming the tradition of Tujia costumes, introducing modern fashion elements, and designing costumes that not only embodies the Tujia ethnic characteristics, but also has modern fashionable elements. I name it as the absorption type; the second is the application of traditional Tujia costumes cultural elements in modern clothing design to produce modern clothes with national characteristics, I call this combination the output type. |
