Silver fiber has the attention of people as the new function fiber because of its good conductivity, antibacterial, etc. The clothing made by silver fiber not only has excellent electromagnetic shielding property, antimicrobial properties, but also comfortable and safety. This paper mainly studies on the structure and properties of polyamide silver-plated fiber. First of all, the structure of the silver-plated fiber is studied by electronic microscope and infrared spectrometer. We find that the cross section shape of silver-plated fiber is almost as the same as the shape before plated. The thickness of the silver plating on the surface is uniform, dense and the appearance is good.Secondly, the silver content of the silver-plated fiber is tested. This paper explores three methods to test the silver-plated fiber’s silver content: first, the pycnometer is used in vacuum for silver content determination of silver-plated fiber. The pycnometer method is improved which similar to the submarine when vacuum pumping so that can improve the accuracy of the results; second, the silver content is determined by using spectrophotometry. This article explores a set of feasible experimental scheme and summarizes many matters which need pay attention to in the experiment; then, this paper explores the chemical precipitation titration method for silver content determination of silver-plated fiber. We find that there are still many problems in this method which need to be further explored. The study in this paper laid the foundation for follow-up study. Finally, the various properties of polyamide silver fiber are analyzed. Through the experiment, the relationship between the silver-plated fiber’s fineness and the conductivity and the fabric’s electromagnetic shielding performance is discussed. The fiber’s fineness is bigger, the conductivity is better. We test the silver-plated fiber’s tensile properties and wear-resisting properties, and we develop the related instrument to study the relationship between the silver fiber’s conductivity and its tensile, wear-resisting properties. The influence of chemical reagent on the silver-plated fiber’s conductivity is tested. The study shows that the H2O2 used in dyeing and finishing pretreatment may make the silver plating to be oxidized, reduce the fiber’s conductivity; NaOH can destroy the combination of the surface silver plating and base material, lead the silver plating to be peeled and the fiber loss its electrical conductivity.
