When it comes to application, the stiffness and toughness are very important for all kinds of blending materials. Because of this, the toughening modification of blending materials is still a focus in the field of polymer science and materials chemistry. Polyethylene terephthalate(PET) is a kind of important engineering plastics. It has good electrical and mechanical properties, the wear resistance and chemical resistance. What’s more, the price is low, especially the recycled PET,only the half of poly(styrene- butadiene acrylonitrile(ABS). Therefore,we can combine ABS with PET together to get a new blend. On the one hand,it can reduce the costs of using ABS material, on the other hand, we can obtain the material whose performance is superior to the single component of blending materials. At present, both at home and abroad, there are many reports about the toughening modification of ABS/PET blend system. The most widely method used is to add a certain content of toughening agent,or make modification of PET or ABS,and then combine together. However, there are little studies on the use of chain exchange, this paper is mainly about ester exchange to toughen ABS/PET blend system. When there is ester base or amide bond in the blends, the reaction between amide- amide, ester exchange- amide exchange reaction is most likely to happen during the melting process. The exchange reaction can toughen the blends. In this paper,we add poly(butyl glycol terephthalate(PBT) to conduct ester exchange reaction, the main content of research and related conclusions are as follows:1. Add a certain content of PBT in ABS/PET blends, study on the influence of PBT and melting process. Results show that when adding 10% of the total polyester PBT,the mechanical properties of the blends can be improved obviously, with the increase of the content of PBT,elongation at break can be increased, and the notch impact strength has a slightly falling when the content of PBT reach 40%. Melting process has a great influence on mechanical properties of blends. When the blends has the same proportion, the one combine PET with PBT(P- E- B) in advance and then combine with ABS has more excellent mechanical properties compared with the blend combined one time. The elastic modulus and bending strength is slightly lower than the latter, thermal stability is not affected by the melting process.2. In the preparation of 1,adding a certain amount of ZnO,study on the influence of ZnO and the adding order. Results show that when add ZnO directly in the ternary blending system, the elongation of the blends doesn’t improve, thermal stability and stiffness is not affected, but elastic modulus and bending strength decrease a lot, notched impact strength is more higher only when polyester proportion is 7/3. This phenomenon also shows when we add ZnO in the ABS/P-E-B lends. However, elastic modulus and bending strength of the latter increase slightly instead. The adding order of ZnO has an influence on the mechanical properties of the blends. When the proportion of each part remains the same, the content of PBT is less than 30% of the total polyester, the order doesn’t have an influence on elongation at break and impact strength, when the content reaches 30% or more, the latter shows more better mechanical properties in these two aspects.
