Ultra-high pressure abrasive water jet technology is a new type of cold machining technology which has been developed in recent decades and widely used. With the development of the technology of water jet, the non-conventional machining process of abrasive water jet has gradually become the focus in the research field of ultra-high pressure abrasive water jet.In this paper, based on the development and research status of water jet technology, the tool setting device and noise reduction device of abrasive water jet are designed, the test equipment is improved. The influence of process parameters on the cutting depth is studied in this paper, process parameters include jet pressure, target distance, feed rate, impact angle and cutting cycle times. According to the influence law, the blind groove machining experiment was carried out on the T2 purple copper plate, and the fitting curves are obtained by fitting the experimental data. The results show that the control of effective process parameters can achieve different cutting depth for specific materials. It is also indicated that the application of abrasive water jet for blind groove cutting and milling is completely realized.In this paper, processing hole and blind hole by abrasive water jet is studied respectively.The experiment of hole processing is carried out on plastic materials and brittle materials, and the morphology characteristics of the holes are studied. The results prove that machining holes by abrasive water jet has certain taper, and taper generally is about 3 degrees.In this paper, as for the study of the blind holes, the abrasive water jet drilling hole depth prediction model is eablished basing on dimensional analysis method.The experimental data and the predicted values are compared, the comparison results show the accuracy of the model, and that the blind hole has a certain taper is also proved.Besides, in this paper, according to the actual demand and the development of water jettechnology, three dimensional machining of ultra-high pressure abrasive water jet is discussed,and experiments are conducted. The experimental results show that the 3D machining of abrasive water jet is feasible.
