During the fabrication process of the heavy equipment structure module, when stud welding process was conducted, the immaturity of the stud welding technology lead to the welded studs fell off from the base material, the welding quality cannot be guaranteed. This paper aims to optimize stud welding technology and the work processes, and then improve the quality of stud welding. The design and fabrication of the heavy equipment structure module is the first time in the whole world, and it involves tens of thousands of stud welding, and the base material of the stud welding is also the first time to use in the relatd fields. In-depth study and optimize the stud welding techonolgy have important significance to guarantee the quality and safety of the structure module.The influences of the factors which may impact the welding quality were defined via the screening analysis. The four main factors which mainly influence on the quality of the weld joint – hoisting height, extension elongation, welding current and welding time were optimized via the mutipe tests and analysis. Thereby, the stud welding technology was improved from the aspects of optimizing the welding parameters.A large number of the test data were collected via the multipe tests and the orthogonal experimental analysis. Statistical analysis was carried on the test data by using the mathematical statistics method. The change trend of the studing welding quality with the chage of each affecting factor was obtained. The ranges of the welding parameters which can guarantee the quality of the stud welding were summarized, and this range can be directly applied to the actual welding process. It lays a foundation for guaranteeing the quality of the structure module.In order to control the quality of the stud welding and improve and optimize the stud welding procedure, a procedure for controlling and evaluating the stud welding quality was established in accordance with the stud welding standards at home and abroad as well as the structure module production practice. Finally, through the test analysis and program implementation, the stud welding procedure was improved and optimized effectively, and the work processes and the contol methods of the stud welding were fixed. The quality and safety of the stud welding were guaranteed effectively, thereby the quality of the structure module was guaranteed.
