Material wear is directly related to the stability of equipment operation, service life and energy efficiency of the equipment, and will result in huge economic losses and waste of natural resources. How to improve the wear resistance and prolong the service life of the material to alleviate the growing shortage of materials and energy has become a trend. High chromium cast iron as an excellent anti-wear material has been more widely used all over the world. The key of excellent wear resistance of high chromium cast iron lies in the composition and distribution of carbide and matrix.The experiment in this paper is based on the theory that vanadium may improve the type of high chromium cast iron carbide and the structure of carbide, so wear resistance and toughness of the high chromium cast iron could been improved.(1)According to the effects of different elements on the microstructure and properties of high chromium cast iron, different combinations of chemical elements are designed to optimize the carbon content and vanadium content of high chromium cast iron by the orthogonal experiment method, and the hardness and impact toughness were used as the experimental indexes.(2)A comprehensive analysis and comparison test of Vickers hardness, Rockwell hardness and impact toughness has been done through metallographic structure test.Based on the experimental study of the influence of the elements on the mechanical properties of high chromium cast iron alloy and its analysis results, high chromium cast iron is optimized to hardness greater than 55 HRC, impact toughness greater than6 J/cm2 by the means of engineering effect and engineering average.(3)Different components of vanadium-containing high chromium cast iron is been analyzed of X diffraction and wear test for further studies on the mechanism of high chrome vanadium affect the microstructure and properties of cast iron.As can be seen from the results that when the count of carbon is same, the macro-hardness, micro-hardness, impact toughness and wear resistance of high chromium cast iron are significantly improved with the increase in the amount of vanadium-containing. When the vanadium content is 3%, the refining effect is most obvious. When the composition is 3% C, hardness 20% Cr and 3% V sample was56.9HRC, toughness 9.3J/cm2, the wear is best.performance.
