The rapid development of construction industry not only brings an increasing demand of energy and resources, but also causes the energy crsis of building ceramic industry. Therefore, developing thin and light-weight ceramic tiles is of significant importance, which might satisfy the low energy and resources consumption. The thinnest tile reported now is about 3 mm by the pressing method, that is at the extreme of this method. Tape casting is another optional method for its simple operation and excellent product property. Non-aqueous tape casting for advanced ceramics has serious problems, such as environment pollution, high cost. So it is necessary to develop environmentally friendly and low-cost aqueous tape casting for the plastic raw material of construction ceramic. The thesis focuses on the aqueous tape casting process of the traditional building ceramics raw material. We studied the effect of dispersing agent, adhesive, plastic agent and their dosage on slurry fluidity and solid content, and the tape casting process and the additives on green performance and sintering property.First of all, it is found that the slurry has good fluidity when the dosage of polyacrylic acid(PAA) is 0.2%. The slurry fluidity will decrease when PAA increases. The slurry fluidity does not change significantly when the amount of calgon is 0.2 ~ 1.7%, showing that the dosage of calgon has little effect on the slurry fluidity. It is also found that the slurry fluidity is not sensitive to pH between 6 and 12 when the amount of calgon is 0.2~1.7%, so the calgon is chosen as the dispersing agent and its dosage is 0.2%.Furthermore, the effect of binder and plasticizer and their dosage on the green forming performance is also discussed. We choose the PVA AH-26 as the binder of slurry after comparing PVA AH-26, PVA 1788 and carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC). The experiment results also show the ratios R of the plasticizer of glycerol and polyethylene glycol(PEG) to PVA affect greatly on the tensile strength and sintering activity of the green body. It is found that the green body has good plasticity and the sintered tiles possess high strength and density when selecting the PEG as the plasticizer and the R=1. While the green body has a better plasticity and the sintered tiles also has a much higher strength and density when choosing glycerol as plasticizer and R=1.
