Fully mechanized mining is the chief development trend of mining methods in thin coal seam and support and hydraulic support plays a central role in fully mechanized mining. Reasonable support type is prerequisite for safe and efficient mining. The support for mining thin coal seams has its own features different from those for medium thick seams and thick seams. In order to make support selection more rational and intelligent, this thesis studies type selection of support comprehensively using theoretical analysis,field investigation and document retrieval. The software for type selection of support for working face in thin coal seam is developed with relevant knowledge of computer programming. The major content of this thesis is as follow:(1) The feature of support for thin coal seam, selecting principle and influencing factors are analyzed theoretically, which help to calculate resistance of support and determine structure of support. Method and procedure of common selection are summarized to improve the theoretical system of type selection of support for thin coal seam.(2) Frame of type selection is designed based on theory of support selection wholly and overall knowledge structure of software is developed. Database of supports and working face is built through field investigation, document retrieval and consulting manufacturers.(3) The demand of type selection software is analyzed and compiled through C sharp and Microsoft SQL Server as fundamental database. Human-computer interface is designed and process of software and logic module are also examined in detail.(4) In order to check the rationality of software, 22406 face of thin coal seam in Guoerzhuang Mine is chose as test site. The comparison between selection result of software and field application indicates that support selected by software can satisfy demand of resistance. The working problems of support are investigated and resolved by means of handling ways for same problems in similar face, which provides guidance for smooth support movement in soft floor of 22406 face.
