The intake and exhaust noise of automotive engine is one of the main noise sourcesof automobile noise. Automobile exhaust emissions will result in PM2.5concentration,causing environmental pollution. The most effective way to control vehicle noise andemission pollution problem is to utilize purifier muffler on the intake and exhaustsystems. The generally design is to separate the catalytic converter carrier and muffleras two individual parts. The catalytic converter carrier is responsible for the exhaustpurification, and the muffler is responsible for noise reduction. Since the honeycombstructure of the catalytic converter carrier can be regarded as porous media which hasthe effect of noise reduction, the carrier can be placed inside the muffler to form aunited structure, so that not only save space, but also take into account the purificationof exhaust and muffler effect.In this paper, based on the platform of the finite element software HyperMesh,professional acoustic software Virtual.Lab and fluid dynamics software FLUENT, finiteelement method and modal analysis method are used to calculated and analyze theacoustic performance and aerodynamic performance of muffler with catalytic convertercarrier. Influence of different parameters on the performance of the muffler is analyzed.On this basis sound field and flow field simulation of complex muffler is conducted,thus a new purifier muffler is designed and the transmission loss and pressure loss areanalyzed. The results show that the improved muffler is better compared with theoriginal muffler in main performance.In this article numerical simulation analysis and design of purifier muffler is done,thus to provide new ideas and methods for purifier muffler improvements, which hasimportant guiding significance to improve the level of muffler design and analysis.
