| PURPOSE:To evaluate if pregnant women periodontitis could be considered as a risk factor for preterm birth and/or birth of low-weight infants.METHODS:Databases were electronically searched from Wileyã€PubMedã€CNKI and WanFang Data for related studies published between January1996to2013, and manual retrieval related journal and conference papers focusing not published. The literature was screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria by two reviewers independently; the methodology quality was evaluated after data abstraction; and then the RevMan5.2was used for meta-analyses,then drawing the Forest plot, and Stata12.0software was used for evaluating publication bias.RESULTS:From the retrieved initially31051articles,19case-control studies, accounting for a total of10266patients,were included in the meta-analysis.The estimated odds ratio was2.19(CI95%:1.67-2.87)for preterm birth,1.79(CI95%:1.41-2.27) for low birth-weight and2.37(CI95%:1.48-3.80)for preterm low birth-weight infants.Begg Test and Egger Test showed that no significant publication bias into literature(P>0.05).CONCLUSION:Pregnant women periodontitis is a risk factor for preterm birth and(or) birth of low-weight infants. |
