ObjectiveThe aim of this research is to study the clinical efficacy of prinking and cupping therapy at DU14and acupuncture in the treatment of acute pharyngitis (wind-heat type) by randomized controlled trail, and explore the more effective method of Chinese medicine on the treatment of this disease.MethodsSixty patients who met the criteria of acute pharyngits (wind-heat type) were included in the study. They were randomly divided into treatment group and control group. Both of the groups were treated by common acupuncture once a day for five days at SI17, LU5, LU7, LI4, SJ5and KI6. The treatment group was treated by prinking and cupping therapy at DU14at the first, third and fifth day of the course. The improvement of clinical symptoms and signs was assessed by The Clinical Efficacy Assessment of Statistical Results Table, and the difference between the groups was determined by statistical significance.ResultsThe study confirms that both of the therapies have a definite effect in clinic. However, the efficacy in the treatment group was better than that in the control group, and there was a positive correlation between them (P<0.05).Both of the groups had improved total score of Clinical Efficacy Assessment of Statistical Results, and the scores of three main symptom and sign, including sore throat, dry throat, and hyperemia of pharynx mucous membrane. Treatment group had better improvements of scores in different time notes of the course, and there was a positive correlation between them (P<0.05).Following the total score of Clinical Efficacy Assessment of Statistical Results and the relapse rate of the patients at the seventh day after the course had ended, there was no positive correlation between them (P>0.05).ConclusionPrinking and cupping therapy at DU14and acupuncture had a rapid and significant clinical efficacy on acute pharyngitis (wind-heat type). Compared with acupuncture, the treatment had a better efficacy, and could improve the symptom and sign more rapidly.
