Objective To design and develop the group intervention plan, then to explore the effect of the group intervention on severity of urinary incontinence, depression symptoms and subjective well-being of the community elderly female with urinary incontinence co-morbid depression. Methods This was an experimental study.64elderly female adults with urinary incontinence co-morbid depression selected from a community in Changsha City and were randomly assigned into two groups, intervention group and control group,32participants in each group. The control group received routine care from the community, while the intervention group received localization group model intervention for three mouths on the basis of routine care from the community, and these two groups would given the observation at the same period. The severity of urinary incontinence, depression symptoms and subjective well-being were measured between pre and post intervention using the questionnaires contain demographic information sheet developed by the researcher,Geriatric Depression Scale(GDS), International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form(ICI-Q-SF), Memorial University of Newfoundland Scale of Happiness(MUNSH) to analyze the effects of the intervention. Results (1) The baseline data of the64community elderly females with urinary incontinence co-morbid depression showed that the scores of GDS, ICI-Q-SF, MUNSH were7.95±2.08,17.42±3.01and22.81±7.12,respectively.Mild urinary incontinence were28cases (43.8%), moderate urinary incontinence were29cases (45.3%), severe urinary incontinence were7cases (10.9%); Mild depression were51cases (79.7%), moderate depression were11cases (17.2%), severe depression were2cases (3.1%).(2) The scales scores of two groups (the intervention group and the control group) were analyzed by paired T test. For the intervention group, the scores of GDS and ICI-Q-SF post intervention were significant lower than pre intervention(P<0.05) and the scores of MUNSH post intervention were significant higher than pre intervention(P<0.05).The difference pre and post the intervention between two groups was compared, the result showed that there were significant differences in the scores of GDS,ICI-Q-SF,MUNSH(P<0.05).(3) Repeated measures analysis of variance showed that group model intervention had significant main effect, time effect as well as interaction effect with time on scores of total GDS, ICI-Q-SF, MUNSH.Conclusions (1) Group model intervention can effectively improve the degree of incontinence of the community elderly female patients.(2) Group model intervention can reduce the depressive symptoms of the patients.(3) Group model intervention can improve the subjective well-being of the community elderly female patients.
