| Background and purpose: Several studies reported that Asians haverelatively higher prevalence of intracranial occlusive disease thanextracranial arterial stenosis compaired with white people. Due to theanatomical differences of bilateral carotid artery, the correlation ofbilateral Carotid artery intia-media thickness,(CIMT) with stroke or itssubtypes of different population may be difference. We performed the studyto analysis the correlation between left CIMT, right CIMT and stroketypes, and to analyze the risk factors of CIMT for acute ischemic strokepatient from our hosptial with the puropse of identifing the featerature ofischemic stroke patient in Chongqing,China.Method: Cases aged>45years old with acute ischemic stroke wererecruited during2011.11-2012.10. According modified OCSPclassification,we classfied cases as one of the following: anteriorcirculation infarcts (ACI), posterior circulation infarcts (POCI). Controlswere recruited among individuals hospitalized for a reason other thancerebrovascular disease at the same institutions and matched for sex andage. We examined the correlation between CIMT,traditional vascular riskfactors and ischemic stroke and its subtypes. And performed a comprision of risk factors from different thickness CIMT as well. Results: We find a significantly difference of bilateralCIMT,hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking, drinking,TG,HDL,andHsCRP,between the cases and controls groups.Analysis of multiple logisticregression shows LCIMT(OR6.104,95%CI2.169-17.182,P=0.001),hypertension(OR2.122,95%CI1.533-2.936,P<0.001) are independent riskfactors of ischemic stroke. The logistic regression of ACI and POCIindicates that LDL has relation to the subtypes ofstroke(OR:1.325,95%CI:1.050-1.672,p=0.018),and other factors have noobvious difference. From the comparision of increased CIMT and normalCIMT,we find that sexand age are closely related to CIMT.Conclusion: LCIMT as a marker of general atherosclerosis wasassociated with ischemic stroke, but not correlated with the subtypes of ACIand POCI. LDL may associated with ACI closely than POCI. From thecomprision of increased CIMT and average CIMT,we find age and sex arerelation to CIMT. |
