Objective To explore the relationship between the menopausalperiod of women and its metabolic syndrome (MS).Method Selected female residents of Chongqing urban areas above40for questionnaire investigation, physical examination of all subjects, atthe same time detect biochemical indexes. Finally, there were1402womenof natural menopause in the study. The author divided the study objects intodifferent groups according to the menopausal period <5years,5-9years,10-14years and≥15years. The author adopted the logistic regressionanalysis to analyze the menopausal period and its relationship withmetabolic syndrome and its components. MS was diagnosed according tothe National Cholesterol Educational Program Adult Treatment Penal III(NCEP-ATPIII) criteria with modification on waist circumference cutoffvalue to be more appropriate for Asian population.Result The group’s MS prevalence was40.87%, women whosuffered MS after menopause had multiple metabolic abnormalities, and themenopausal period was significantly higher than those who were not MSsufferers (P<0.05). As the menopausal period grew longer, so did the MS prevalence of research objects and the prevalence of multiple components(with the exception of HDL-C) subsequently increased (P <0.05). MSprevalence of postmenopausal women in menopause period <5years,5-9years,10-14years,≧15years was29.37%,34.29%,45.30%and49.13%respectively (P <0.05). After adjustment for age and BMI (except centralobesity), menopausal period within10-14years of MS risk was1.54timesthat<5years. When menopausal period≧15years, the risk rose to1.71times. At the same time, the prevalence risk of central obesity, hightriglycerides, high blood pressure and high blood sugar of menopausalperiod≧15years was respectively1.48,1.73,1.91and1.62timed thanthat <5years. Logistic regression analysis showed that the influencefactors of MS were BMI and menopausal period. Conclusion Post-menopausal women is a high-risk group of MS, andthe menopausal period is related to MS.
