Objective:To study the differences of substance metabolism in encephalic regions between the patients with somatization disorder and healthy volunteers by using magnetic resonance spectroscopy(MRS),and investigate the correlation between the substance metabolism and alexithymia. To study the correlation between alexithymia and personality disorders.Methods:The thalamus,caudate nucleus,lobus insularis and putamen of30patients with somatization disorder and30controls were scaned with Multi voxel location scanning of MRS,then the level of NAA,Cr,MI,Lip,Lac and Cho were estimated ac-cording to the AUC(area under the curve) respectively.And the ratios of NAA/Cr,MI/Cr,Lip/Cr,Lac/Cr and Cho/Cr were compared within-subjects and between-subjects in left and right encephalic regions.Also TAS-20(Toronto Alexithymia Scale)and EPQ scale was rated by patients and controls.the correlation between TAS-20and EPQ were studied,Then the correlation between the ratio of NAA/Cr and MI/Cr,which showed significant difference in some brain region of patients’and their TAS-20scale scores were analyzed.Result:The between-subjects effects and the within-subjects effects and the interaction effects of NAA,NAA/Cr and Ml between patients and controls’ thalamus existed significant difference and the between-subjects effects and the within-subjects effects of MI/Cr existed significant difference.Moreover the between-subjects effects of NAA,NAA/Cr,MI/Cr and MI between patients and controls’ caudate nucleus and lobus insularis existed statistical difference.There were significient difference about the scores of TAS-20and EPQ,the correlation was existed in the two groups.The ratio of NAA/Cr of patients’left thalamus was negatively correlated with their TAS-20,while the ratio of NAA/Cr of bilateral caudate nucleus and lobus insularis had no correlation with TAS-20.Conclusion:There were abnormal biochemical metabolism in left thalamus,lobus insularis and bilateral caudate nucleus of patients with somatization disorder.The correlation between alexithymia and personality disorders was existed,and their alexithymia was correlated to the abnormal biochemical metabolism in left thalamus of patients with somatization disorder.
