Objective To study the distribution characteristics of occupational stress and personality characteristics among medical staffs of secondary or tertiary hospitals and explore the correlation between them in Guangxi Ethnic Community.Methods We enrolled 1386 medical staffs of department of medicine、 surgery、gynaecology and obstetrics、paediatrics and emergencyas the subjects in 3 tertiary hospitals and 9 secondary hospitals in Guangxi, China and conducted questionnaire of a self-designed questionnaire, the occupational stress inventory revised edition and Eysenck personality Questionnaire. The data was statistically analyzed by SPSS version 19.0. Collected data between groups were tested by One- Way ANOVA analysis. The occupational stress and personality characteristics were analyzed by Pearson’s correlation.Results There was a high level occupational stress of medical staffs and significant difference between the medical staffs and the national norm in the result of questionnaire. There were statistically significant differences between gender, age, job title,physical condition and the hospital are in different departments of the distribution characteristics of occupational stress (P<0.05). The scores of academics of different ethnicities in the personal resources questionnaire demonstrated a significantly difference (P<0.05). The personality characteristic of medical staffs represents the higher extraversion,neuroticism and lie and lower psychoticism. There was significant correlation between the level occupational stress and fourdimensions of the Eysenck’s questionnaire.Conclusions There were statistically significant differences between different departments of the distribution characteristics of occupational stress and personality characteristics in Guangxi Ethnic Community.Doctors had higher occupational stress than nurses.We will improve and perfect the personality characteristics.Specific and targeted intervention measures should be taken to reduce their occupational stress. Its goals is to increase the quality of medical care.
