Objectives:To determine the final pathological diagnosis in patients presenting with recurrent postmenopausal bleeding (RPMB) after initial negative investigations.Study design:The clinical manifestations and pathological features of all patients presenting with recurrent PMB between 1 January 1998 and 31 December 2013 were retrospectively studied in a tertiary hospitals. Calculations were performed with SPSS 20.0. Categorical variables were analyzed using the Chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test when the expected frequency was less than five. Interval variables were analyzed by Student’s t-test. A p-value of 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results:A total of 918 women with PMB were collected over a period of 15 years. Seventy-three required definitive treatment after their first visit. One hundred and twelve re-presented with recurrent bleeding. The prevalence of endometrial cancer in women presenting for the first time with PMB was 8.04%(9/112); The prevalence in women presenting with recurrent PMB after initial negative investigations was 7.95(73/918)%, there was no significant difference on the incidence between the former two conditions(P>0.05).7 patients(12.25%) was diagnosis ovarian sex-cord stomal tumor after hysterectomy and bilateral sapingoophorectomyConclusions:Women with recurrent PMB after initial negative investigations are no more likely to have endometrial cancer. Ultrasonography combined with Hysteroscopy could better rule out maligancy. Patients presenting with recurrent postmenopausal bleeding (PMB) after initial negative investigation should be alert to ovarian sex-cord stomal tumor.
