ObjectiveTo investigate the clinical significance of the optimized grouping acupoint catgut embedding on the basis of tonifying spleen and stomach, by comparing the optimized grouping acupoint catgut embedding method with the conventional treatment of simple obesity. Hope to improve therapeutic effect and prevent the occurrence of adverse reactions.Methods60 cases were collected from the acupuncture clinic of the first affiliated hospital of Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and divided into two groups. The method of acupoint catgut embedding in the control group came from the clinically proven program for treatment of simple obesity by the State Administrative Bureau of TCM during the Eleventh Five-Year plan for the important special acupuncture departments. The optimized grouping acupoint catgut embedding in the experimental group was a ten-year clinical experience of professor Pan. To guarantee the same dose-effect, both methods were combined with the same acupuncture treatment. The time interval between tow treatments of acupoint catgut embedding was 10 days, and 3 times was a course of treatment. The frequency of acupuncture treatment was 2-3 times a week, and 10 times was a course of treatment. We had 3 courses to observe.the change of obesity indexes, such as weight, BMI, F%, waist circumference, hip circumference.ResultThere was no statistics-difference between the two groups, including age, gender, pattern of syndrome, the weight, BMI, F%, waist circumference, hip circumference, which was recorded before the treatment (P> 0.05).After three courses of treatment, the obesity indicators of both groups decreased significantly than before. There was statistics-difference between the date before and after treatment by paired t test (P<0.05). As the same times, the comparison between the two groups after treatment shows that the date of weight, BMI, F%, waist circumference are significantly different statistically (P<0.05). However the hip circumferences didn’t have statistics-difference between the two groups (P> 0.05).The control group had a cured rate of 16.67%, a significant effective rate of 30.0%, and an effective rate of 36.67%. The experimental group had a cured rate of 43.33%, a significant effective rate of 33.33%, and an effective rate of 16.67%. The total effective rate of the experimental group was higher than the control group, which is significantly different statistically (P<0.05).ConclusionAfter three courses of treatment, both of the two therapies are effective in treating simple obesity. The decline of the obesity indicators in experimental group was more obvious than the control group. The study also showed that the experimental group is on par with the control group for descending the hip circumference. In conclusion, the curative effect of the experimental group was better than the control group. And the experimental group had a lower rate of adverse reactions, was more effective and safe than the control group.
