Study Of Defense Way, Family Environment And Personality Characteristics In Depression Patients

Objective: By the means of comparing the role of familial environment, personality characteristics and defensive style played in patients suffering from depression group with the role played in the normal control group from various angles, exploring the psychological defense style of patients and analyzing the familial environment prone to the occurrence of depression as well as the personality characteristics of patients with depression, this paper aims at determining the contact of these three factors: familial environment, defense style and personality characteristics, which matters a lot to the patients with depression, and finally providing treatment and prevention of depression with a theoretical basis.Methods: By the use of the Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS), Defense Style Questionnaire(DSQ), Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ) and Family Environment Scale(FES-CV), this paper has achieved a system evaluation for 50 patients with depression as well as 50 healthy people for contrast in order to collect and compare the data. As for the process of dealing with data, the paper makes the best use of SPSS20.0 in the manner of statistical methods include χ2 test, analysis of variance, τ test, correlation analysis and regression analysis.Results:(1)There is a significant difference in the mature defense mechanism, immature defense mechanism and intermediate defense mechanism(P < 0.05) between the depressive group and the healthy group. For the part of intermediate defense mechanism, except for formatted reversing, altruism, affiliation, expectation, consumption tendency, we didn’t find any obvious difference between depressive group and normal group. But depressive patients are prone to use projection, non-active attack, summarization, subconscious performance and other immature defense systems. However, in contrast with the depressive group, healthy group will tend to use mature defensive systems. Meanwhile, there is no significant difference in most using of middle defense system.(2)There are significant differences in the family accomplishment, cohesion, entertainment, controllability and contradictory aspects(P <0.05) between the depressive group and the healthy group.(3)Patient with depression group scores much more than the normal control group(P <0.05) in six SSP subscales: somatic anxiety, stress sensitivity, lack of confidence, resentment, social aspirations and excitement. Patient group’s scores are significantly higher than the normal control group(P <0.01) in P, E, N factor.(4)Results of SSP and DSQ indicates that, immature defense mechanism factor and four subscales: adventurous, indifference, physical aggression and verbal attack are of highly correlation(p < 0.05); Besides, Somatic anxiety, distrust and resentment, verbal aggression, impulsivity, attack and defense system have significant positive correlation with intermediate defense mechanism factor(P < 0.05). What’s more, the mature defense mechanism has a significant positive correlation with the social desire(P < 0.05), but a significant negative correlation with resentment(P < 0.05).(5)Patient group mostly appears in melancholic, introverts-unstable temperament; only a few of patients show extroverts- unstable choleric characteristics; but the normal control group mostly appears in extroverts- stable sanguine, and few people show introverted stable. Thus, personality characteristics are positively correlated with depression disease.(6)Defense mechanism and the regression analysis of personality showed that: In this study, we regard the complaints and sublimation factor produced by Depression defense style as basic variables, and the SSP as the independent variable in order to make a regression analysis. Under the condition that α is equal to 0.05, multivariate regression analysis was made gradually. It showed that the sublimation factor is positively correlated with self-confident, social desire and irritability, and negatively correlated with the body anxiety, mental anxiety and stress sensitivity. Supposing the sublimation as Y1, body anxiety as X1,mental anxiety as X2, stress sensitivity as X3, self-confidence as X4, Social desire as X5, excitatory as X6; The regression equation of the Y1 is: Y1=-0.033X1–0.146X2-0.012X3+0.388X4+0.184X5+0.145X6. Supposing the complaint as Y2, indifference as the Xa, impulse as Xb, verbal attack as Xc social desire as Xd,Y2 regression equation is:Y2=0.317Xa+0.132Xb+0.365Xc-0.184 Xd.(7)The relevance of the family environment and defense style showed that: DSQ immature defense mechanism of patients with depression indicates a significantly negative correlation(P < 0.01) with family cohesion, but it also shows a significant correlation(P < 0.05) with contradiction, moral religion and controlling nature. However, the mature defense mechanism has a significantly positive correlation(P < 0.01) with intimacy, the success, the entertainment and organization. The intermediate defense mechanism and the emotion, success, entertainment, moral religion and control are highly related(P < 0.05).(8)The regression of defense style and family environment suggested that: In this study, we view the complaints and sublimation factors produced by dep ression defense form as variables, and the family environment scale factor as t he independent variable to make a regression analysis. Supposing sublimation as Y1, family closeness as X1, family success as X2, moral religion as X3 and family entertainment as X4, the regression equation of Y1 is: Y1 = 0.156 X1 + 0.080 X2 + 0.042 X3-0.027 X4.What’s more, Supposing complain as Y2, independence as Xa, emotional expression as Xb, contradiction as Xc, the regression equation of Y2 is:Y2 =-0.046Xa-0.032 Xb + 0.053 Xc.(9) There is also a certain relationship between family environment and personality characteristics in depressive group. It showed that family closeness is significantly positive correlated with the social desire(P<0.05), but negative correlated with resentment, indifference, verbal aggression, and physical attack(P < 0.05); Emotional expression and social desire have a significantly positive correlation(P < 0.05); Contradiction has a significantly positive correlation with spiritual anxiety, resentment, verbal aggression, and physical attack(P < 0.05); What’s more, independence is significantly negative correlated with lack of confidence, resentment, verbal aggression and physical attack(P < 0.05), but positive correlated with social desire, and non-confidence(P < 0.05); Besides, Success is significantly positive correlated with(P < 0.05) risk, and negative correlated with a lack of confidence(P < 0.05); Entertainment and social aspirations have significantly positive correlation with excitatory(P < 0.05); Religious morality and verbal attacks have a significantly negative correlation with physical attack(P < 0.05); Organizational and social aspirations are significantly positive correlated with excitatory(P < 0.05); Controlling and body sex anxiety are significantly positive correlated with physical anxiety(P < 0.05), and have a significantly negative correlation with impulsiveness, verbal aggression, and physical attack(P < 0.05).Conclusion: Family environment has a direct impact on the defense style of the patients with depression: positive, harmonious family environment can enhance the ability of coping with psychological stress for patients with depression, be beneficial to take defensive in the correct way, reduce negative emotions. Family environment is the key level to influence the psychological of depression patients, for the family environment of patients with depression, we can improve the indicators of the family status, for example, make efforts to improve their family cohesion, emotional expression, independence, knowledge, success, entertainment moral values and control, reduce family conflict, in order to change the bad defense style of patients and reconstruct family and social function. It is of great significance for the treatment of depression. For the patients of depression, their own personality determines the psychological defense mechanism, the patient psychology, as well as the ability of dealing with depression. The maturity of defense mechanism affected patients’ personality traits, so the personality characteristics must be taken into consideration in the clinical treatment of patients with depression.
