| Background Medical fear is a common psychological reaction of hospitalized children.Excessive fear can reduce the adaptability of hospitalized children and their compliance with medical care,thus affecting the treatment and recovery of diseases.Numerous studies have shown that school-age children’s own personality is related to children’s fear of medical treatment,and family upbringing plays an important role in the formation of children’s personality,while family upbringing and behavior are important components of family education.To explore the influence of family upbringing on children’s medical fear,and to study the correlation between children’s medical fear and family upbringing and personality can guide parents to cultivate good family upbringing and children’s personality,reduce the fear caused by hospitalized school-age children,and provide theoretical basis for clinical medical staff to take corresponding intervention measures for the problems found.Objective To understand the current situation and influencing factors of medical fear of hospitalized school-age children in Xin xiang City,analyze the correlation between family rearing methods and children’s personality traits to hospitalized school-age children’s medical fears,with a view to reducing the clinical fear of school-age children and their families,Improve the children’s medical experience and formulate intervention measures to provide a reference basis.Methods Using convenience sampling method,1484 school-age children hospitalized in 4 3A hospitals and 2 specialized hospitals in Xin xiang City from January 2018 to August 2019 were selected.General data questionnaire,Children’s Medical Fear Scale,Children’s Edition Parental Rearing Style Scale and Small Five Personality Questionnaire were used for questionnaire survey.SPSS 24.0 software was used for descriptive analysis,one-way ANOVA,independent sample T test,correlation analysis and linear regression analysis.Results(1)The average fear of medical treatment for hospitalized school-age children in Xin xiang city was(10.24±2.31)points for fear of medical environment,(9.18 ± 1.85)points for fear of interpersonal relationship,(8.63 ± 1.82)points for fear of self and(8.32 ±2.80)points for fear of medical operation from high to low.The three items with the highest scores were(2.58 ± 0.68)points from leaving home,(2.76 ± 0.55)points from death and(2.72 ± 0.51)points from delayed learning.(2)The scores of fear of medical treatment were statistically significant for different age,gender,hospitalization times,residential area,caregivers,Parents’ age,parents’ educational level and parents’ working nature(P<0.01).(3)The total score of medical fear was significantly negatively correlated with emotional warmth(r=-0.265,P<0.001),and was significantly positively correlated with over-protection and rejection dimensions(r is 0.107 and 0.137 respectively,P values are all < 0.01)。The total score of medical fear was significantly positively correlated with emotional and cautious personality(r is 0.292 and 0.543 respectively,P pvalues are all <0.05),which was significantly negatively correlated with extroversion,agreeableness and open personality(r are-0.460,-0.391 and-0.349,respectively,P < 0.05)。.(4)Regression results showed that emotional warmth and extroversion personality were protective factors for medical fear of hospitalized school-age children.Conclusion:(1)Hospitalized school-age children have a higher degree of medical fear of medical environment and interpersonal relationships.(2)Factors such as low age,girls,frequent hospitalizations,living in urban areas or county towns,and their parents are older and low educational level of parentsand their parents prefer mental workare all risk factors that cause medical fear for school-age children.(3)Cultivating emotional warmth family parenting style and extroverted personality is conducive to reducing medical fear. |
