Objective: Systemic inflammatory response syndrome(SIRS) is a severe complication after percutaneous nephrolithotomy(PCNL). Our purpose was to investigate the risk factors associated with SIRS after percutaneous nephrolithotripsy with holmium laser. Methods: Records of 111 patients treated with PCNL were reviewed retrospectively.Possible risk factors such as operative time, urinary tract infection, preoperative midstream urine culture, preoperative usage of sensitive antibiotics, location of stone, gender, and age, were analyzed to assess their association with the occurrence of postoperative SIRS.Results: Significant risk factors include long operative time, urinary tract infection before surgery, no effective treatment of urinary tract infection before surgery, and large stone volume. Age and gender are not risk factors. Conclusion: Stone parameters and operative factors are potential risk factors for SIRS.Therefore, effective usage of antibiotics preoperatively, short operative time, early diagnosis and treatment is the key points to prevent and treat SIRS after PCNL.
