The hygienic status of indoor swimming pool water is related to swimmers’ health. In order to control the effects of pathogenic microorganisms to people health, chlorination disinfection is widely used in swimming pool water treatment. However, in the process of disinfection, disinfection by-products (DBPs) are definitely produced. Because DBPs are not included in the current hygienic management system of swimming pool water. Therefore, few studies have focused on the formation of swimming pool water disinfection by-products. DBPs in swimming pool water include DBPs formed in the process of tap water and swimming pool water chlorination. Therefore, the types of chlorinated DBPs in the swimming pool water are much more complicated than those in tap water.Chlorination disinfection is a simple, economic and effective disinfection method, which is widely used in drinking water and swimming pool water disinfection. With the further understanding of the adverse effects of DBPs, DBPs in the swimming pool water could be incorporated into the swimming pool water quality supervision indexes. So to explore the level of main DBPs in swimming pool water is of great significance to formulate corresponding health regulatory standards in the future. In history, chlorine disinfection to control the occurrence of infectious diseases played an important role, but it produces toxic by-products has no cause enough attention, along with the development of science and technology and improve the detection means in the laboratory and these by-products are found, and was gradually known.Similar to the kinds of chlorination disinfection by-products(DBPs) in drinking water, although there are many different kinds of DBPs in swimming pool water, main chlorine disinfection by-products in swimming pool water including trihalomethanes (trichloromethane, bromodichloromethane, chlorodibromomethane, bromoform) and haloacetic acids (trichloroacetic acid, tribromoacetic acid, bromodichloroacetic acid, dibromoacetic acid, dibromochloroacetic acid, bromoacetic acid, bromodichloroacetic acid, monochloro acetic acid, dichloroacetic acid).Although there are many typed of DBPs in the swimming pool water, similar to the types of DBPs in chlorinated tap water, main typed of DBPs in swimming pool water are still THMs (chloroform, dichlorobromomethane, chlorodibromomethane, bromoform) and HAAs (trichloroacetic acid, tribromoacetic acid, bromodichloroacetic acid, dibromoacetic acid, dibromochloroacetic acid, bromoacetic acid, bromochloroacetic acid, chloroacetic acid, dichloroacetic acid). Given that there is no detection method for swimming pool water THM4 and HAA9, therefore, this research probed into the detection methods of volatile chlorination disinfection by-products (THM4) and non-volatile chlorination disinfection by-products (HAA9) in the swimming pool water, and measured THM4 and HAA9 levels in the indoor swimming pool water. The results show that the established methods with low detection limit and high sensitivity can be used for THM4 and HAA9 detection in swimming pool water. Chlorination disinfection by-products (THM4) in the indoor swimming pool water are mainly chloroform, showing that chloroform is the main type of disinfection by-products. HAA9 in the indoor swimming pool water is maily bromochloroacetic acid. The content of chloroform and bromochloroacetic acid in the indoor swimming pool water is much higher than that in the water supply and disinfection by-products limit value in drinking water, indicating that the health risk of disinfection by-products in the swimming pool water should not be ignored, and limits of DBPs in swimming pool water should be established as early as possible in order to protect the health of people to the most extent.
