ObjectiveThis study analyzed the scavenging effect of hemoperfusion (HP) time forthe first time on plasma paraquat (PQ) concentration and evaluated prognosticvalue by detecting PQ clearance rate in order to provide theoretical basis forclinical treatment.Methods62patients with acute PQ poisoning by ingestion within12hours afteringestion were admitted in the First Hospital of Jilin University, the EasternDivision, from Jan1,2014to Mar1,2015. And then retrospective research wasperformed. All patients were treated with HP. According to different HP time forthe first time, they were divided into A and B groups. The HP time for the firsttime of Group A was2hours and that of Group B was4hours. According todifferent PQ doses, they were divided into mild, medium and severe poisoning. We record the plasma PQ concentration at before (0h), underway (2h after HPbeginning) and at the end (4h) of the HP therapy. The clearance rate wascalculated. Record all death and survival outcome of patients. Compare the PQclearance rate, fatality rate and survival time of non-survivors of A and B.Results1. As HP was going on, the plasma PQ concentration kept falling down.Compared with the second two hours, PQ concentration of the first two hoursdecreased sharply in group B. 2. Group B showed a higher PQ clearance rate than that of Group A formoderate and severe patients, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).For the mild patients, there was no statistically significant difference in PQclearance rate (P>0.05). Compared with mild patients, severe poisoning patientshad a higher PQ clearance rate, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).3. All of the two groups in the study had no statistically significantdifference for fatality rate(P>0.05). For moderate and severe poisoning patients, the survival time of non-survivors of Group B was longer than that of Group Aand the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion1. HP for the first time can effectively eliminate PQ from the blood.2. For moderate and severe PQ poisoning patients, prolonging HP time forthe first time do not affect the fatality rate, but could prolong the survival time ofpatients.
