Human physiological signals often influence by multiple organizations between each others in different organs. Simply using linear methods to analyze physiological signals tends to ignore the interaction of physiological processes and restricting factors. Therefore, using the combination of time domain, frequency domain and nonlinear three directions is better to exhume hidden information in the physiological signal, which is now attracting many researchers’focus. Because heart rate variability which has more parameters can reflect the status of human nervous and attention. The generated reason of ECG and pulse signal is similar, and in comparison with the pulse signal, ECG is susceptible to interfere, therefore, this article studied the difference and relationships between HRV and PRV. Try to analyze the possibility of replacing heart rate variability with pulse rate variability. This thesis studied that whether HRV can be replaced by pulse rate variability, and the quantitative relationship between them. Because ECG is vulnerable to interfere, we consider to replace ECG with pulse signal which is easily measured and less interfered, for detecting the physiological condition of the body accurately and easily. We first collect pulse and ECG data synchronously, and after de-noising, baseline drift and other steps to get the ECG and pulse interval data. Then compare and analyze the characteristic parameters of heart rate variability and pulse rate variability in the time domain, frequency domain, nonlinear three aspects. By analyzing data of healthy young and elderly people, patients with atrial fibrillation, and studying different positions, different links, and found that there is a difference between heart rate variability and pulse rate variability, but the difference is relatively small, the difference in the state of calm is 5% around, In some extent, the PRV can be a substitution of HRV. The position and age have some rise and fall in the frequency domain, the breathe and nervous effect in them have a delay on the time, the delay of PRV is 6% to 20% by cardiac (heart) cycle range; the affect of breathing on HRV is larger than PRV. The pulse signal of the patients with atrial fibrillation is quite different from the ECG data, The PRV cannot take place of the HRV in the patients with atrial fibrillation.
