The Efficacy Of Trazodone Combined Topiramate In Treatment Of Medication Overuse Headache

Objective To observe the efficacy of trazodone combined topiramate in treatment of medication overuse headache.Method The patients who had suffered from repeated attack of migraine headache were inquired detailed medical history, possible medication overuse headache(MOH) patients were chosen and Migraine Disability Assessment Scale(MIDAS) was used to evaluate their disability degree. The enlisted MOH patients were recommended to withdraw from overused analgesics, and were divided into two groups according to Random Number Table, one was observation group and the other was control group. The observation group were treated with trazodone combined topiramate, they orally took trazodone hydrochloride tablets 50 mg per night, the patients with longer duration took tablets of 25 mg, 25 mg, 50 mg respectively in the morning, noon and dusk, meanwhile, they took 25 mg topiramate tablets twice per day, in the morning and dusk. For the control group, they were only treated with topiramate for 3 months. Short Form Health Survey(SF—36)was used to access the health status after treatment. After treatment, the headache attack times, headache duration, headache severity, SF—36 survey as well as adverse drug reaction between these two groups had been recorded and compared.Result Compared with the control group, patients who were treated with trazodone combined topiramate had been suffered less headache attack times and shorter duration(P<0.05), with a significant difference.There was obvious improvement on headache severity and SF-36(P<0.05), with a significant difference.There was no obvious difference between observation group and control group in adverse drug reaction occurrence rate(P>0.05), with no significant difference.Conclusion Trazodone combined topiramate can be used to treat MOH, and is helpful to relieve headache, improve withdrawal symptoms and make quality of life better.
