Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of laparoscopic bilateral inguinal hernia repair(TEP and TAPP),to study the complications and recurrence of this technique and summarize experience of clinical application.Methods A retrospective study of clinical data of 76 patients who underwent laparoscopic bilateral inguinal hernia repair at the 2nd Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University from June 2013 to December 2014. 50 cases were performed by totally extraperitoneal procedure(TEP),and 26 cases were performed by transabdominal peritoneal procedure(TAPP).All patients were followed up by outpatient and telephone for 6~24 months(median 15 months).Results All operations were completed successfully.Duration of operations was 84.40±29.20 min in TEP and 125.10±32.30 min in TAPP.Postoperation hospital stay was 3.04±1.58 d in TEP and 3.12±0.77 d in TAPP.No analgesic was required. The VAS pain grade in the first day after the surgery was 1.38±0.75 in TEP and 1.61±0.72 in TAPP. 1cases(1 side)were recurrent in TEP.The postoperative complications included 1 case(1 side) of scrotal hematoma,3 cases(4 sides) of seroma,2 cases(2 side) of transient neurapraxia,2 cases of urinary retention.There were no intraoperative complications,no ischemic orchitis,no prosthetic infection,no intestinal obstruction,no puncture heina,no chronic pain,and all incisions healed by first intention.Conclusion Laparoscopic bilateral inguinal hernia repair(TEP and TAPP) is safe and effective.Proper selection of patients and surgical procedures,standardlized operation which will obtain favorable clinical effect and best benefit of health economics.
