Background and ObjectiveChronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is one of the most common diseases of rhino-otolarynology,which includes chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps(CRSsNP) and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps,(CRSwNP).Due to the inflammatory reaction, edema of the nasal mucosa and the formation of nasal polyps,it is easy to lead to the mechanical obstruction of the olfactory area and the injury of the olfactory epithelium. So Hyposmia even loss, as one of its symptoms, caused great distress to patients.Meanwhile, since the long-term and recurrent illness, the patients’ physical and mental are greatly affected, which severely reducing the quality of life of patients. The endoscopic surgery is one of the main methods of treatment, but the effect has no unified conclusion. The aim of this reasrarch is to explore the improvement of Olfaction and QOL of the CRS patients (with/without nasal polyps) with olfactory disorders.Method44 CRS patients with olfactory disorders were involved in the study, All the patients were accepted CT scan and Lund-Mackay CT score before surgery,And the relevant circumstances were recorded too.VAS score,SNOT-20 score and T&T test were taken before operation,4weeks and 12weeks after surgery.Result1 The T & T testIn the T & T test, there were 59.5% and 73.0% of the patients whose olfaction were improved 4 and 12 weeks after the surgery. There were statistically difference between the before and 4 and 12 weeks after the surgery (P<0.0001).while the difference between the 4 weeks and 12weeks after surgery were statistically insignificant (P=0.720)2 The VAS scoreThe improvement rates were 77.3% and 86.4 in the VAS score. There were statistically difference between the before and 4 and 12 weeks after the surgery (P<0.0001)in the VAS score, while the difference between the 4 weeks and 12weeks after surgery were statistically insignificant (P=0.147)3 The SNOT-20 testIn the SNOT-20 test, there was statistically difference between the before and 4 and 12 weeks after the surgery (P<0.0001),while the difference between the 4 weeks and 12weeks after surgery was statistically insignificant (P=0.055).4 The relationship between Lund-Mackay CT score and T & T test,VAS scoresLund-Mackay CT score and T & T test, VAS scores were all positively correlated(r=0.569, P<0.0001; r=0.782, P<0.0001).ConclusionThe olfaction and QOL of the patients were significantly improved after the endoscopic sinus surgery, and the difference between the 4weeks and 12 weeks after surgery was statistically insignificant. The extent of diseases in the CRS and the degree of olfactory disorder were positive correlated.
