ObjectiveTo observe treatment of Chinese medicine combined with anti-VEGF of secondary macular edema of retinal vein occlusion in the the clinical efficacy and safety, which was compared with anti-VEGF treatment group. Then, to provide a more effective and more economical, more security anti-VEGF optimization treatment by analyzing and evaluating the Chinese medicine for the anti-VEGF treatment of the disease in efficiency, cost and safety.MethodsWe used retrospective case-control study method, the patient of the diagnosis of retinal vein occlusion macular edema were choiced by incorporating the standard between January 2012 and December 2015 in Guangdong Provincial Hospital, which were adopted anti-VEGF therapy or Chinese medicine combined with anti-VEGF therapy, again according to the inclusion criteria included in accord with the condition of patients,67cases (69eyes), the above cases were divided into group A:anti-VEGF treatment of 32 cases (33eyes); Group B:traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation treatment combined with anti-VEGF (35 patients (36eyes)). To evaluate the efficacy of these two groups by comparing the best corrected visual acuity, the thickness of macular center concave retinal and the thickness of macular area average retinal, the volume of macular area retinal, the times of anti-VEGF treatment within 1 year as well as the safety. And then to evaluate the effect and security of these two treatments, and to evaluate the optimization of treatment effect of traditional Chinese medicine for anti-VEGF treatment of secondary macular edema of retinal vein occlusion.Results1. Improvements in visual function(Best—Corrected Visual Acuity, BCVA)Group A and group B:BCVA were gradually improving in 4w and 8w,12w after treatment. It had significant difference compared with that before treatment (P<0.05).Between the two groups:BCVA had no significant difference between group A and group B in 4w and 8w after treatment(P>0.05), but it had significant difference between group A and group B in 12w after treatment (P<0.05).2. Improvements the macular morphology aspects (macular edema)Macular edema includes three indicators:macular center concave thickness, the average thickness of retina macular area and volume of retina macular area, these three indicators change consistent in this study. Group A and group B:macular edema were gradually reducing in 4w and 8w,12w after treatment. It had significant difference compared with that before treatment (P<0.05).Between the two groups:macular edema had no significant difference between group A and group B in 4w and 8w after treatment(P>0.05), but it had significant difference between group A and group B in 12w after treatment(P<0.05).3. Health Economics and SafetyIn per capita terms of the number of injections of anti-VEGF drugs one year comparison:the times of group B is less than A group. Patients had no vitreous hemorrhage, ocular complications and systemic adverse reactions throughout the study.Conclusion:1. Chinese medicine differentiation therapy combined with anti-VEGF therapy and anti-VEGF treatment both have a certain effect onsecondary macular edema of retinal vein occlusion, which can improve patients visual acuity and reduce macular edema.2. To secondary macular edema of retinal vein occlusion,12 weeks after therapy, compared with only anti-VEGF therapy, the treatment of Chinese medicine combined with anti-VEGF can better able to improve patients visual acuity and reduce macular edema, and reduce the times of anti-VEGF treatment.3. Over a period of 5 months follow-up, the treatment of Chinese medicine combined with anti-VEGF of secondary macular edema of retinal vein occlusion did not appear vitreous hemorrhage, serious adverse ocular and systemic complications. It shows as a safe treatment.
