A Prospective Study To Evaluate The Safety And Efficacy Treated With Chinese Insects And Herbal Medicine Formula For Patients With Vulnerable Plaques Of Carotid Artery

Objecti vesThrough clinical research of insects and herbal medicine formula on the clinical intervention efficacy of carotid atherosclerosis plaques, we discuss the clinical effect and mechanism of action about Chinese medicine intervention on carotid atherosclerosis plaque so as to improve the importance of traditional Chinese medicine in treatment of atherosclerosis resistant. This may afford the clinical means to further reduce the incidence of cerebrovascular disease as well as to actualize secondary prevention.MehtodsA prospective, single center, non randomized, control clinical study.90 cases of patients with carotid atherosclerosis vulnerable plaques, divided into treatment group (A group) and control group (B group). The patents of control treatment group were treated with atorvastatin, the patients of treatment group were treated with atorvastation plus insects and herbal medicine formula for 90days and followup for 180days. The primary outcome was the vulnerable plaques change, such as plaque score, plaque volume, plaque echo, plaque area and blood lipids. the second outcome were incidence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events in the whole treatment and follow up duration.ResultsIn this study,103 patients with carotid vulnerable plaques were screened in accordance with the criteria of inclusion and exclusion,9 of them can not contact,2 of adverse reactions (1 case facial skin irritation occurs,1 due to swelling of the eyes) terminate the test and 1 for refusing to take medicine and exit,1 due to not meeting eligibility. And 90 cases finished the clinical trial,60 cases in Group A and 30 cases in Group B. The IMT and plaque score, plaque area in Group A were improved after treatment with C117 formula compared with Group B (P<0.05). However, the blood lipid, such as TC,, LDL, HDL were not improved in Group A compared with Group B. the side effect of insects and herbal medicine formula was allergic actions (6 in 60 cases) in Group A. No liver, kidney and cardiac injure was observed in two groups during the trial.Conclusion1. Insects and herbal medicine formula treatment of carotid atherosclerotic vulnerable plaques without clinical cardiovascular events, heartless kidney damage, only mild allergic reaction, the morbidity was 10%.2. Insects and herbal medicine formula could improve the carotid IMT, plaque score and plaque area compared with only using atorvastatin. and the mechanism of action is still unclear.
