Research purposes: Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is an acute infectious disease caused by a variety of virus infections. It has been listed in "C" class infectious deseases in our country and its cases took the first place among "C" class diseases. HFMD has diverse clinical manifestations, severe cases can be deadly. The infected persons, severely affected persons and even the dead are almost under 5. So far still there is no specificity of prevention and cure, so we have to do a good job of HFMD prevention. And the emphasis is on health education.This research investigates the staff and parents’ knowledge about HFMD in kindergartens in Yancheng city. The purpose is to get to know the situation of child care personnel’s disease knowledge in this region, to find the weak link, to analyze the influencing factors and to provide basis for related departments.Research methods:This study collects related information from kindergarten and CDC of Yancheng, and conducts the the questionnaire survey among 160 teachers and 160 parents of five kindergartens in Yancheng city. Survey content centers around HFMD basic knowledge, prevention, spread and professional knowledge. Applied SPSS 13.0 to analyze the data.Results:1. In the four aspects of HFMD knowledge, the average awareness from low to high are:basic knowledge,81.24%; professional knowledge,82.34%; knowledge of spread,90.73%; knowledge of prevention,96.69%. This reveals that the staff and parents of kindergartens have better understanding on the knowledge of spread and prevention of HFMD, and they don’t grasp the basic and professional knowledge very well.2. The influence factors analysis:cultural degree is the influencing factor (χ2=17.310, P<0.05).3. The way investigation objects grasp the knowledge of HFMD:88.92% of respondents would like to grasp the knowledge of HFMD from radio, television, network, publicity column, publicity slogans, brochures and telephone counseling; 80.79% of respondents would like to obtain the knowledge from books, newspaper, publicity column, publicity slogans and brochures.4. Respondents’ demand for health education content:13 respondents (2.87%) think it doesn’t matter or they don’t want to know about it. The rest responsts’ demands from high to low are:how to prevent,360 people (79.47%); the performance of the disease,318 people (70.20%); nursing methods and treatment,290 people (64.02%); route of transmission,287 people (63.36%); the prevalence and the news of the new cases,231 people (50.99%); the harmfulness of HFMD,229 people (50.55%); the relevant government departments’phone numbers, control measures, and other information,94 people (20.75%).Conclusions:1. The staff and parents of kindergartens in Yancheng city understand the related knowledge of HFMD well;2. From four aspects of knowledge of HFMD, the average awareness from low to high are: basic knowledge, professional knowledge, knowledge of spread and knowledge of prevention. Therefore, in the future health education, we must strengthen the education of basic knowledge and professional knowledge;3. The single factor analysis shows that cultual degree is the influencing factor, we should improve the health education about HFMD among people who have low degrees.4. Respondents’demand for disease knowledge is high:how to prevent, the performance of the disease; nursing methods and treatment; route of transmission; the prevalence and the news of the new cases and the harmfulness of HFMD and so on.5. The way respondents acquire knowledge:respondents want to get knowledge from Internet, media platform and expert lectures. In order to achieve better effect, we need to build a diversified platform which can offer the related knowledge of HFMD.
