Objective:The aim of this study is to evaluate the treatment and functional outcome of femoral head fracture in young patients with a mean age of 28 years old.Method:We treated 9 young patients with age range from 16 to 44 years old with femoral head fracture from 22/02/2013 to 30/01/2015 at our hospital. Eight (8) patients underwent surgical treatment and one (1) patient had conservative treatment. One out of the eight surgical treatment received Total Hip Replacement, one had bilateral femoral head fracture and the remaining six had the femoral head fracture on either the left or right side with or without acetabular treated. Results:Using Pipkin femoral head classification system there were four Type IV, three Type Ⅱ and two Type Ⅰ. Functional outcomes by both Merle d’Aubigne and Postel’ score as well as the Thompson and Epstein score, we reported seven (7) excellent results in both scores and two good score (in both Total hip replacement patient and bilateral femoral head fracture patient)Conclusion:The patient age, time of treatment and comorbidity are important indicators for excellent or good functional outcome after treatment of femoral head fracture being surgical or conservative therapy. If surgery is the option, careful preservation of blood supply of the articulatory hip joint is essential to produce good recovery results. In the situation of conservative treatment, early anatomical reduction with traction and rehabilitation is of great benefit.
