Objective:To explore the understanding in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) on type 2 diabetes with hyperlipidemia. Observe the clinical efficacy of "Qingrehuashi Recipe" (decoction of heat-clearing and dampness-resolving) on type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with hyperlipidemia and pattern of dampness-heat simmering internally by clinical randomized controlled trial to provide the theoretical basis of its clinical application. Methods:Based on the principle of one-to-one parallel controlled clinical trials,60 cases of T2DM patients with hyperlipidemia attributed to pattern of dampness-heat were divided into 30 cases in treatment and control group respectively. The conventional medication to reduce blood glucose and lipid was adopted as basic therapy for both groups. Recipe of Qingrehuashi was additionally administered on this basis in the treatment group. Each course contained 4 weeks, and 3 courses in total. The differences between two groups on symptoms, signs, and subject indexes of laboratory after 3 courses were analyzed, and the index of safety was evaluated. Results:Statistics Package for Social Science 22.0 was adopted for the data analysis. Before the treatment, the comparison of uniformity between two groups showed no statistical significant (P>0.05) on gender, age, course of disease, score of TCM syndrome, and the laboratory indexes and the compatibility. Both treatment and control groups could effectively alleviate the clinical symptoms(P<0.01). The TCM syndrome score in treatment group was improved significantly than that in control group(P<0.01). For the comparison of total efficacy on TCM syndrome, the ratio of treatment group was better than that of the control one (90.00%:50.00%, P<0.01). For the comparison of total efficacy, the ratio of treatment group was better than that of the control one (86.67%:56.67%, P<0.05). After treatment, the improvements of the blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, and blood lipid in both groups were significant (P<0.05) and were better in the treatment group than those in the control one (P<0.05). For the blood rheology, the some indexes of that in the treatment group were improved (P<0.05), but no significant difference between two groups. No serious adverse reaction was found in both groups, and the indexes of liver and kidney function were all within standard range. Conclusion:Qinrehuashi Recipe can be prescribed for patients of T2DM with hyperlipidemia and pattern of dampness-heat simmering internally to improve all clinical symptoms and the blood glucose, blood lipid, glycosylated hemoglobin, and blood rheology. From this initial investigation, the combination treatment of Qinrehuashi Recipe and western medicine has outstanding advantages to the treatment of purely western medicine and no adverse reaction, is safe, effective, and worth for further study and promotion.
