ObjectiveTo evaluate the expression of Neuroglobin(NGB) in aqueous, vitreous, fibrous proliferation membrane and serum of patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR).MethodsThirty patients who were diagnosed as PDR were divided into 3 groups equally according to the time of observation: IV, V,and VI. The control group consisted of 10 patients with idiopathic macular hole. We collected aqueous, vitreous, fibrous proliferation membrane or internal limiting membrane during vitrectomy. Serum was collected before operation. Expression of NGB in the aqueous, vitreous and serum was determined quantitatively by ELISA method. The expression level of NGB in the fibrous proliferation membrane or internal limiting membrane was determined by immunohistochemistry method.ResultsIn PDR groups, the expression of NGB in serum, aqueous and vitreous were significantly higher than in the idiopathic macular hole group(F=494.433,143.923,2568.291;P<0.01);In PDR groups, the expression of NGB in serum and vitreous i ncreased from PDR4-PDR6,the differences between any two groups were statistically significant(t4-5,4-6,5-6=-9.766,-29.678,-15.117; t4-5,4-6,5-6=-3.231,-26.419,-27.578;P<0.05).Expression of NGB from PDR4-PDR6 in aqueous was no significant difference(t4-5,4-6,5-6=-0.528,0.182,0.565;P>0.05).The positive rates of NGB expression in fibrous pro liferation membrane in the IMH group,PDR4 group,PDR5 group,PDR6 group were0,(6.12±2.124)%,(13.43±2.046)%,(16.39±2.455)%.In PDR groups, the diff erences between any two groups were statistically significant(t4-5,4-6,5-6=-21.552,-25.059,-7.238;P<0.05).ConclusionsThe expression of NGB in serum, aqueous, vitreous and fibrous proliferation membrane of PDR patients was significantly increased compared with the control group. The expression of NGB in serum, vitreous and fibrous proliferative membrane were increased with the aggravation of the disease.
