Objective We retrospectively analysed the clinical characteristics of myelodysplastic syndrome(MDS) translating into acute myeloid leukemia(AML), in order to explore the related factors which influence it and analysis the recent therapeutic effect.Methods1.All of the 153 new-diagnosed MDS patients came from the hematology department of the second hospital of Shanxi medical university and Shanxi province tumor hospital.Among them, there are 26 MDS translate into AML patients, which include 13 male patients whose median age is 54 and 13 female patients whose median age is 56.2.All of the patients are diagnosed which are based on ?standard for diagnosis and treatment of Zhang Zhinan’s blood diseases?.3. G-banding technology detects the chromosome of all the patient.4. Flow cytometry(FCM) is used to detect the cell immune phenotype of all the patients.Results1.In the 153 MDS patients, translating into AML are 26 cases(17%),whose median time are 4(1 ~ 29) months, focusing on AML-M2, AML-M4,AML-M5,AML-M6.2.The patients of MDS translating into AML have different degree of anemia, and 2cases have marrow infiltration.3.Among the 26 cases of MDS translating into AML, there are 18 abnormal chromosome karyotype(69.2%).Comparing the karyotype with MDS patients before translating into AML, 9 cases have abnormal karyotype(appering new karyotypes or disappearing the original karyotypes).4.According to our statistical analysis, there were five parameters related to the leukemic transformation : the series number of peripheral blood cytopenia, the proportion of blast cells in bone marrow.the WHO classification of myelodysplastic syndrome, the quality and quantity of chromosome karyotype.Gender and age are not included.5.The over response rate of demethylation treatment for patients who suffer from AML translated from MDS is 77.8%, and it can make the patients quality of life improved.Conclusion1.MDS is prone to transform into AML,which is closely related to the series number of peripheral blood cytopenia, the WHO classification of myelodysplastic syndrome, the proportion of blast cells in bone marrow, the quality and quantity of chromosome karyotype.2 MDS translating into AML has unique biological characteristics and poor prognosis.3.The demethylation treatment obtains a better short-time curative effect.
