Objective To evaluate usefulness of MDCT for diagnosising of gastric varices, therapeutic efficacy after endoscopic treatment and risk factor of hemorrhage of gastric varices. Methods The medical records of 40 cases of gastric varices in our department were retrospectively reviewed, got Kappa consistency checks between gastroscopy and MDCT. The cases were grouped according to hemorrhage of gastric varices or not:Hemorrhage group,G1 consist of 17 cases,No hemorrhage group,G2 consist of 19 cases. In addition, calculate and evaluate data from MDCT or CT angiography(CTA),gastroscopy, performed in 36 of the patients for gastric varieal volume, portal system thrombosis, gastric/splenorenal shunt, red-color sign etc. Ten patients accepted special treatments(2 for butyl cyanoacrylate injection,8 for Endoscopic Variceal Ligation).Pre and post treatments gastric variceal volume calculations were compared.Data was analysised by t test,Chi-square and so on,as appropriate whom wasused to compare between-group diferences. Results Of these patients,we find gastric varices for 37 cases with gastroscopy and for 39 cases with MDCT, Kappa=0.62, P=0.000. The mean gastric variceal volume of G1 was larger than the volume of G2(4.46ml±0.75 ml vesus 4.26±1.09ml),but there were no significant(P>0.05,T=4.45).9 patients of G1(52.9%)had portal system thrombosis vesus 4 patients of G2( 21.1%),(P=0.047,x2=3.955). 9 patients of G1(52.9%)had gastric/splenorenal shunt vesus 6 patients of G2(31.6%),(P=0.19, x2=1.685). 16 patients of G1(94.1%) had red-color sign vesus 4 patients of G2(21.1%)(P=0.00,x2=19.4). Pre treatments gastric variceal volume calculations were larger than post treatments gastric variceal volume calculations( 3.03 ml vs0.44 ml, p=0.001, T=4.45).Conclusion MDCT is a useful tool in diagnosis gastric varices.MDCT with measurement of gastric variceal volume is a potentially method in evaluating theraputic effect, but as so far there is no useful data to show it a independent risk factor of gastric varices.
