Research On Utrillo’s Landscape Painting Arts

Maurice Utrillo (1883-1955), one of the School of Paris painters, devoted his landscape arts entirely to the Montmartre, an area of northern Paris on a hill. As a peculiar painters in20th century, he had a unique perspective on the landscape arts. The sincere pursuit of his inward world urged him to inject his veritable emotions and artistic thoughts into his paintings. The breath of mystery and desolation permeated his works, which had to be closely interrelated with his real life. To some extent, his works became one way to catharsis his emotions whereas it might exceed this range. It was this connotation beyond its inherent meanings that driven me to learn and study his works and thoughts.This thesis is made up of four parts which just correspond with the four chapters. The first chapter illustrates how Utrillo’s real life took effect on his painting, and shows the underlying means deriving from his painting theme. The second chapter mainly illustrates how Utrillo’s painting works blended with his feeling expression, then based on this analysis represents his pursuit of aesthetic judgment on arts. The third chapter gives the multianalysis of the style and the connotation in Utrillo’s works, and then presents his perception of the arts and life. The fourth chapter refers to the edification significance coming from the Utrillo’s arts.This thesis, based on the interrelated relationship between Utrillo’s real life and his painting arts, analyzes and investigates Utrillo’s insight and thought in the landscape painting arts field, and then seeks to find out the interface point of the Utrillo’s painting arts and the modern painting arts in order to give a useful guide to the painting study and artistic creation in future.
