| News is the major medium to convey information, and news translation is like abond for information and cultural exchange among nations in the world, so theimportance and necessity of news translation is self-evident.This thesis is written on the basis of the author’s own translation of eight piecesof economic news. Considering the features of English news and functionalequivalence theory, this thesis illustrates some examples to analyze the translationstrategies adopted, such as literal translation, liberal translation and adaptation. Tosome extent, all the translation strategies can reach functional equivalence, whichproves functional equivalence’s guiding function in news translation. Meanwhile,through the analysis of some difficult points encountered, it puts forward somesolutions and summarizes some basic strategies and criteria for news translation. It isexpected to provide a reference for later translators, arouse public awareness of newstranslation, and encourage more people to devote into news translation so thatinternational news information can be quickly and accurately spread in our country.This thesis falls into five chapters. The first chapter is a brief introduction,stating the importance and necessity of news translation. The second chapter makes adetailed source-text analysis in terms of intra-textual factors and extra-textual factorsin order to determine fundamental key and basic principles for news translation. Thethird chapter gives a general overview of the translation process and explains relevanttheory. The fourth chapter illustrates major problems encountered in the translationprocess and comes up with possible solutions or strategies. The fifth chaptersummarizes basic news translation criteria of “faithfulness and expressiveness†andtranslation experience, draws a conclusion that functional equivalence theory caneffectively guide news translation. Meanwhile, it points out the limitations ordeficiencies for improvement. |
